A team is relatively permanent work group whose members must co-ordinate their activities to achieve one or more common objectives. As achievement of team‘s objectives requires co-ordination, team members depend on one another and must interact regularly.
A work team generates positive synergy through co-ordinate effort. Teams have far-reaching impact in the today‘s work place. They have become an essential part of the way business is being done. A team is a group, but only some groups have the high degree of interdependence and commitment to success we associate with a team.

Types of Teams 
On the basis of its objectives team can be classified as follows

1. Problem solving teams: 
Problem solving teams consist of groups of five to ten employees from the same department who meet for a few hours each week to discuss ways of improving quality, efficiency and the work environment.

2. Self- managed work teams: 
A self-managed team includes collective control over the pace of work, determination of work assignments, and organization of breaks and collective choice of inspection procedures.


3.  Cross functional teams: 
Cross functional teams are made up of employees from about the same hierarchical level, but from different work areas, who come together to accomplish a task.
